Ski Club of Great Britain Fashion Shoot.

With the pavements melting in the heat, and the Tennis at Wimbledon in full swing what better time to show up for a photo shoot. I arrived amongst all the ball bouncing, strawberries and Pimms to shoot the Ski Club of Great Britain’s winter fashion assignment. Thank God we had a wind machine is all I can say as the models were virtually melting in the down jackets and thermals. We went for a real person look rather than the uber airbrushed android look as it fits with the sort of person who uses this kind of gear. Even though it was baking hot and tempers could have easily frayed it actually turned out to be good fun. Many thanks to Maisha, Rosie, Kate, Zara, Caleb, Alex, Sarah, Pike and Joel.  Below are a couple of my favourites.

Child Stock Photography

Springtime in the UK is such a great time of year, so we took advantage and shot some stock pictures of our children. We went out walking around Shropshire and visited a few National Trust properties, keeping it very simple and just shooting a few pictures whenever we saw something that would work. We also noticed that the fields opposite my old school, Summerhill in Kingswinford where absolutely think with wild poppies so we also seized that opportunity and shot a few winners.

Portraits

I’ve recently been working on a series of portraits for the stock industry, I though I’d share this one with you as I think it’s quite cool, the detail in the eyes is spectacular, all thanks to the Nikon D3x.

Salomon Spring Summer 2011 Hiking Clothing.

Here are a few pictures from a shoot I did on Snowdon with the Salomon Spring / Summer 2011 hiking range. The brief was for images that portray light fast walking in classic British scenery. But as soon as the gear arrived the spectacular autumn weather turned into weeks of rain and gales blowing all of the autumn colours away. I waited and waited, and arranged dates and cancelled and arranged again, then I saw a brief window of opportunity in the met offices forecast, made a few calls and within 12 hours we where on our way to North Wales, due to the lack of leaves it had to be up high or nothing.

There was blue blue sky the whole way there, but as usual Snowdon was covered in cloud, the forecast at the car park was for a clear mountain by late afternoon, and sure enough, after hiking up and sitting out the fog, it finally lifted and the most beautiful afternoon fell upon the mountain and we got to work. I know they aren’t the highest mountains in the world but when the light gets that good Wales is pretty hard to beat. A few days later I sent over the shots to Salomon, the marketing manager sent me a message saying ”Hey Ross, I’m loving these shots and bang on the brief I emailed over!”… Job done!

Snow + Rock Catalogue 2010

So here we have the new catalogue from Snow + Rock and I am very pleased to say I have the front and back cover. I said in my blog entry in April that I was holding back all of the best images from the shoot until the catalogue was launched. So here are a few of the best images from the shoot. Many thanks to all of the crew from out in Obergurgl and congratulations to Julio and Becky on the cover shot, one of 37 images from that face which they rode perfectly top to bottom, that after an initial 1/2 an hour hike up. I’ve put my favourite from those shots in the slideshow below, Enjoy!

Mountain Warehouse Front Covers

Outdoor clothing and equipment retailer Mountain Warehouse have just published their Autumn and Winter range, this year they have decided to do two separate catalogues, one for hiking and rambling, and one of ski wear. It seems like a long time ago since we shot the ski images in Alpe d’Huez, so it’s great to see it in print.
Many thanks to Issy, Ben, Peter, Rosanna, Adrian and Lisa Marie for the modeling expertise, and all the Mountain Warehouse crew, it was great fun shooting with them!

20 minutes on the beach

I went down to Cornwall to shoot some interior pictures for Port Issac Cottages. After a day of shooting the house, I went down to Polzeath beach in the pouring rain to get a breath of fresh air and to see what was going to happen with the sunset, almost straight away the clouds broke and I managed to shoot a couple of really nice images in the last twenty minutes. Although silhouettes are pretty easy to shoot and a bit of a cliché they are also quite effective and I can’t resist.

Food Pictures

One of the best bits of advice I was ever given was “shoot what you love doing” and I have to say I do love eating. So here are a few images I’ve taken with Stuart Phillips, chef and patron at The Hundred House restaurant at Norton in Shropshire. I have to admit, I was close to tears when that treacle tart went back into the kitchen.

Mountain Warehouse Autumn 2010

Outdoor clothing and equipment retailer Mountain Warehouse came up to Shropshire this month to shoot their Autumn clothing range, with the emphasis on rambling and fun in the English countryside. Most of May and June had been really quite hot and dry, so the grass around Shropshire was pretty brown, but as if by magic the rain turned up just in time for the shoot. So we managed to get a good mix of weather conditions which gave the images a really nice atmosphere and a slight autumnal feel.

Mountain Warehouse Winter Catalogue 10/11.

Family in tow I arrived in Alpe d’Huez to shoot the Mountain Warehouse catalogue, the resort had had a huge season with a very deep snowpack which was still being topped up almost every night. We had some pretty good weather for the whole thing, just one afternoon of blizzards, which made a pleasant change. They wanted a mix of ski and snowboard shots with the emphasis on fun. So that’s what we did, went on the mountain and had a good time, it worked a treat. The Woodhall kids also did a fine job of modeling, and predictably where asking to get paid before they had finished the job. We stayed at the Hotel Chamois again and had great food upstairs, and a great time down stairs in the Underground bar. Many thanks to Gareth, Catharine and Adam for their huge support.
