After such an incredibly awful snow season in the French alps this year it was with much trepidation that I ventured into Austria to shoot the Winter 10/11 Snow & Rock catalogue. But to my amazement the snow didn’t seem anywhere near as bad as I had expected. Obergurgl is quite a high resort, admittedly it was a little slushy at the bottom of the mountain, but hike for ten minutes at the top and you could find some descent snow. I took some Elinchrom Quadra flashes with me this year, they worked out a treat and are about half the weight of the RX Rangers, which made the hikes a little easier, but after nine long days of lugging them around they seemed to get a lot heavier. I’ll post some more from this shoot in October after the launch date. As soon as we had finished, I was packed and en route to Tignes via Switzerland.

With the snow in the alps being so thin and fuel prices going through the roof I decided to stay home and shoot some stock images for Cultura. So I gave Kev Harris a call and we organized dates, I had decided to shoot in Shropshire for the first part and then head to Snowdonia for the second. In Shropshire we shot mostly hiking on Stiperstones, the light was really intense with great layering on the hills in the distance. Once in Snowdonia we headed to a new location towards Beddgelert and shot some camping images by the river, and then went for a fast hike/scramble up into the hills to try and shoot the sunset down the valley towards the sea, unfortunately the weather had a different plan and we didn’t get the sunset we wanted, but we still managed to get a few nice shots done.
