Snow + Rock 09/10 catalogue. April 30th, 2009
April found me in Obergurgl in Austria shooting the Snow + Rock 09/10 winter catalogue. It had been scheduled for late April, which I must admit was a bit of a worry regarding snow conditions. I needn’t have bothered, it did as it did last year, snowed for Austria. In over 15 years in the mountains I have never seen anything like it at that time of year. It snowed for days right to the valley floor, quite incredible really, and it was very cold too, which was great as it kept the snow in good condition. We did have one day of complete blue sky towards the end of the shoot and few days of mixed weather where it cleared for a few hours at a time to grab those blue sky shots, we also used quite a lot of flash which was great for creativity.
I also tried a new shooting technique, which in hind sight I wouldn’t recommend. The picture brief was “mates taking shots of each other jumping on boards” and I sort of wanted to get a boarders eye view…ish of proceeding, so I came up with this idea below, well, probably not my best idea, but, you can also see the shot I got, it sort of worked, I just needed an Ibuprofen sandwich afterwards.
